Can you believe it’s already April? After the somewhat stressful astral energy of March, I am personally quite happy to begin a new month!
Let’s look at what the heavens have in store for us in April:
April (All Month): Uranus Will Transit in Krittika Nakshatra in Conjunction with the Fixed Stars Capulus and Algol
Uranus — planet of innovation, awakening, and rebirth — will be slowly moving forward through the first two degrees of Taurus during all of April. This transit has been in place since last May 2024, while Uranus moved back and forth between 28 degrees of Aries and two degrees of Taurus. Uranus returned to Taurus recently, on March 18, where it will remain until April 20, 2032!
The cusp between Aries and Taurus comprises the sharp and fiery Krittika nakshatra, which is ruled by Kartikeya, the Vedic god of victory and war commander of the gods. This area of the zodiac also contains two intense and transformative fixed stars, Capulus (at 20 minutes of Taurus) and Algol (at 2 degrees 18 minutes of Taurus).
With Uranus transiting in this intense part of the zodiac, we may be experiencing some unusual and dramatic global events, revolutionary forces, extreme seismic or weather events, major endings, and brand new beginnings. The lower expression of this extended Uranus transit reflects some agitation and instability. Yet, there is also a higher expression of Uranus here, which can manifest as increased willpower and stamina.
For more information about the transit of Uranus in Taurus over the coming seven years, please refer to my previous article titled The Transit of Uranus in Taurus.
April 1-7: Chaitra Navaratri - The Nine Nights of Mother Divine
In North and South America, Chaitra Navaratri will be celebrated from March 29 to April 6. In the rest of the world, it will be celebrated from March 30 to April 7. This Vedic festival is celebrated for nine nights in commemoration of the allegorical battle of good versus evil which is symbolized by the defeat of the demon Mahishasura by Mata Durga.
Navaratri has a profound esoteric meaning and significance for devotees who fast, pray, meditate, chant, bathe in holy rivers, and participate in other kinds of specific ancient rituals during this time. During the nine nights, devotees worship Devi Durga in a multitude of her various forms. She is said to walk among us and bless us. During this time, she helps us to fight our inner battles and release our inner demons.
One of the ways to worship during Navaratri is to focus on and propitiate three aspects of the goddess for three days and nights each: The first three are devoted to Durga Devi, the personification of power and purification. The second three are devoted to Lakshmi Devi, the essence of compassion and beauty. The last three are devoted to Saraswati Devi, the embodiment of wisdom and grace.
April 2 to June 6: Mars Will Transit In Cancer - Potential for Emotional Volatility
On April 2 at 3:58 PM EDT, or 7:58 PM UTC, Mars will transit back into Cancer, where it recently transited from October 20, 2024 to January 20, 2025. Mars will remain in Cancer until June 6. This suggests that certain concerns that we have been experiencing during the past six months could remain unsettled until June 2025. Please see my previous sign-to-sign forecast (written for paid subscribers) for more information.
As Mars transits in Cancer, the fire element can be diminished. Some may feel a loss of energy, ambition, willpower, and self-discipline. We may have difficulty digesting our food, thoughts, and emotions, which can lead to the build up of toxins. This can result in emotional volatility; a sense of inertia; difficulty concentrating; allergies and seasonal colds or flu; leg problems; or eye disorders.
In my article titled The Extended Transit of Mars in Cancer, I mentioned a historical pattern of natural and human-caused disasters, geopolitical and economic crises, major storms, and maritime accidents that occurred during protracted Mars in Cancer periods like this one. Therefore, we should be mindful and cautious. I recommend chanting the Maha Mritunjaya mantra to calm any related tensions. It can be especially helpful to do this on Tuesdays and Saturdays. I love this version on YouTube by Rajshri Soul.
April 5-6: Ram Navami - Celebrating the Triumph of Light Over Darkness, Knowledge Over Ignorance, and Good Over Evil
Ram Navami will be celebrated on April 5-6 in North and South America, and on April 6 elsewhere in the world. This is the day that marks Lord Ram’s birthday. It also commemorates the victory of light over darkness on the ninth and final night of Chaitra Navaratri.
Ram Navami is an Abuj Muhurta (Shubh Muhurat) day. This is an auspicious day for beginning any important new venture. This entire day will be very blessed and powerful not just because of its connection to a holy day or festival, but also because these special days are aligned with important astrological and bio-energetic cycles. Ram Navami is a wonderful day for prayers, intentions, and affirmations.
Devotees in certain parts of India celebrate this day with the Ram Lila, a re-enactment commemorating the epic Ramayana, the heroic legend about the exploits of Shri Ram (Lord Rama), a great avatar or divine incarnation of the supreme Lord Vishnu.
April 7: Mercury Will Station Direct - Moving Forward!
Mercury is transiting in its debilitation sign of Pisces from February 27 to May 6. It has been retrograde since March 15, when it stationed retrograde at 15 degrees of Pisces. It will station direct at two degrees of Pisces on April 7, at 7:08 AM EDT, or 11:08 AM UTC.
This entire Mercury in Pisces cycle has been somewhat confusing and unpredictable because of the inherent weakness of Mercury in Pisces, and also because Mercury has been retrograde in the hyper-charged Pisces eclipse axis. All of this suggests a tendency for things to have felt a bit uneasy in the material realm, as Mercury rules the Earth element!
Some may have experienced a loss of clarity, communication problems, health issues, stagnation, setbacks, or delays during the Mercury retrograde period and also in the pre-retrograde cycle. Much of this may start to resolve over the coming days and weeks as Mercury moves forward through what is known as its “retroshade” phase.
Some issues you have been dealing with over the past month or so may start to clear up. You should be able to sort things out and finally start to get ahead in the coming weeks. Be extra-mindful in the days around the direct station of Mercury which can feel somewhat wobbly.
April 12: Hanuman Jayanti - Blessings Abound!
Hanuman Jayanti will be celebrated worldwide on April 12. This special day commemorates the birth of Sri Hanuman, the incarnation and messenger of Lord Shiva, and the greatest devotee of Lord Ram. As the noble hero and most humble servant of Lord Ram, Sri Hanuman is the personification of bhakti (spiritual devotion), as well as being the embodiment of karma yoga.
For me, karma yoga and the power of Hanuman were best described by the great guru Neem Karoli Baba (Maharaji to his disciples), who once said, “Whoever works for God, his work will be done by itself." As the essence of service (seva), Lord Hanuman is an exceedingly courageous super-hero whose greatness lies within his single-pointed devotion to God (Ram). Happy Hanuman Jayanti! Glory to Hanuman! Glory to his Lord, Sri Rama!
April 12/13: Pink Full Moon (Chaitra Purnima) - A Sacred Time for Self Reflection, Making Amends, and Joyful Celebration
The Full Moon will occur on Saturday, April 12, at 8:22 PM EDT, which will be April 13 at 12:22 AM UTC. Please check WorldTimeBuddy for the exact time if your time zone is different. The Full Moon will occur at 29 degrees of Virgo conjunct Ketu and aspected by Jupiter, in the auspicious Chitra nakshatra.
This is a good time to buy new clothes; work on creative ventures; refresh your home or office environment; enjoy healing, spiritual, and beauty practices; and wear Jyotish gems for the first time.
The day leading into the Full Moon in the Chaitra month (which encompasses late March to late April) is called Chaitra Purnima in the Vedic tradition. This is a fasting day that is dedicated to self-reflection and making amends. In some traditions, devotees pay their obeisance to Chitragupta, the scribe of Lord Yama who records all human deeds in the Akashic Records. It’s a very powerful synchronicity that Chitragupta is associated with Ketu in Vedic Astrology, as Ketu is conjoined the Full Moon, suggesting even more so that this will be an important time for atonement and forgiveness.
The first Full Moon of the spring season in the northern hemisphere is known as the Pink Moon. This refers to the beautiful spring flowers that are blooming in many areas of the northern hemisphere of the world now. More specifically, the Pink Moon was so-named in honor of the springtime blossoms of phlox, a wildflower native to eastern North America as well as other parts of the world.
I always think of it as being the “Pink Moon” too since springtime evokes feelings of being “in the pink,” referring to the English idiom that means to be at the peak of health. This expression goes back to the 1500s when the word “pink” did not refer to a color, but meant to be in a near-perfect condition.
April 12: Venus Will Station Direct - A Significant Energy Release May Occur
On April 12, Venus will station direct at zero degrees of Pisces. It has been retrograde since March 1, when it stationed at close to 17 degrees of Pisces. It has been transiting in Pisces a very long time, from January 27 to May 31. Venus has been in the recent solar eclipse axis conjunct Neptune, Saturn, Mercury, and Rahu.
This large conjunction will continue into the first week of May, when Venus will finally cross over and past Neptune. Those who read my previous articles in February and March may recall that this conjunction points to unprecedented transformational events and personal challenges for some.
The general trend of a Venus recent retrograde cycle is to question, reevaluate, and explore certain matters related to the significations of Venus. These could relate to concerns about relationship, money, comfort, happiness, values, or health. Over the coming weeks, as Venus moves ahead and picks up speed, the results of this recent retrograde reevaluation process may be revealed.
The few days around the station of a planet can be a sensitive period of time when we may experience a release of energy and an inner or outer shift. In regard to stationary direct Venus, this may indicate a sense of relief or a joyful event.
In her amazing book Venus: Her Cycles, Symbols, & Myths, the late Western astrologer Anne Massey described the retrograde cycle of Venus this way:
In the short term, anything that was denied in terms of money or value during the retrograde period is reinstated at the direct station. It is our inner permission to move forward toward acquiring what we value. The forty days [retrograde cycle] of subtle persuasion by Venus have left a lasting impression. While Venus is retrograde, monies and things owed us are put on hold [may be put on hold], and that theme ends when Venus stations direct. Venus retrograde does not seem to deny, but only delay.
April 12 to 20: Passover - The Jewish Springtime Holiday Celebrating Freedom and Family
Passover (or Pesach in Hebrew) will be celebrated from April 12 to 20 this year. This time-honored spring festival celebrates freedom and family in the Jewish tradition. It is traditionally capped off with a ritual meal known as the Passover Seder.
April 13 to May 14: The Sun in Aries - A Time of Enhanced Vitality, Clarity, Creativity, Motivation, and Courage
The Sun will transit in Aries from April 13 to May 14. The Sun represents our confidence, life force, soul purpose, and direction in life. The Sun exalts in Aries, meaning that it is powerful here. This month-long transit is a time when we may be able to access greater vitality, clarity, creativity, motivation, and courage.
In Vedic Astrology, the entry of the Sun into Aries is known as Mesha Sankranti. It’s celebrated as the Solar New Year in Vedic astrology and in many of the rich and varied cultural traditions of India. Mesha Sankranti will be observed on April 13 in North and South America, Europe, and Africa, and on April 14 elsewhere in the world (Asia and points further east). Mesha Sankranti is an inspirational day for prayers, pujas, mantras, celebrations, new intentions, and affirmations!
April 14: The Exact Rahu-Saturn Conjunction - Potentially Tumultuous Karmic Events in Range from March 16 to May 17
The exact Rahu-Saturn conjunction will occur on April 14, but it has already been within an effective five-degree orb of aspect since March 16. This aspect will continue until May 17. When Saturn and Rahu are conjoined, this is known as Shrapit Dosha in Vedic Astrology. In its lower expression, it is considered to be a detriment to financial markets, relationships, and peace, and more broadly might point to tumultuous karmic events. It its higher expression, it can indicate a great drive and ability to achieve success.
One reason for the problems that are well known with this conjunction is that Rahu acts like Saturn ("Shani vat Rahu"), meaning that they will exponentially magnify each other's qualities when they are working together. Both aggravate Vata dosha. This means that Saturn can constrict the movement of life force, causing feelings of isolation, pessimism, depression, and anxiety, whereas Rahu can aggravate the life force, triggering hypocritical, aggressive, obsessive, and delusional thinking and behaviors.
The Rahu-Saturn conjunction can throw everything out of balance in body, mind, and spirit unless we are mindful and working to keep ourselves in balance and good health. We can experience restless feelings, insomnia, physical pain, digestive disturbances, tremors, arrhythmias, skin problems, dehydration, paranoia, phobias, difficulty concentrating, and other such ailments. If you need information about how to balance the Vata dosha during this transit, you can explore the myriad Ayurveda resources online or consult with an Ayurvedic health practitioner to help you learn more.
In the current case, Rahu and Saturn are coming together in the upcoming Pisces solar eclipse axis. Here, the conjunction is considered to be a potent irritating factor that can indicate emotional stress, health disturbances, relationship battles, power struggles, conflict with authority, extreme storms, civil unrest, violent or explosive events, and the revelation of mass crimes and corruption.
In Lal Kitab, a unique Hindu system of Vedic astrology and palmistry, the conjunction of Rahu and Saturn is called “nagmani,” which refers to the legendary jewel (mani) in the snake (nag). The nagmani is said to be a rare and precious gemstone or pearl formed by crystallized venom within the heads of certain noxious snakes, particularly cobras. It is also known as the "snake stone” or “cobra's pearl.”
Most sources I have accessed say that there is no scientific evidence that snake stones actually come from snakes. Some scientists speculate that they are really bezoars, stony concretions that come out of the stomachs of animals, especially goats and other ruminants, and sometimes humans. I actually came across human bezoars on several occasions when I worked as a nurse in an Endoscopy center years ago.
Nonetheless, whatever its origin, the mythical snake stone is a folk remedy in many world traditions, used for snakebites and for spiritual protection, and as a symbol of wealth and power. The nagmani reference in Lal Kitab is a metaphor indicating some good fortune that comes after a difficult challenge. I always tell my clients who have this combination in their natal charts that after they wrestle the serpent (deal with and overcome their related problems), they will find the jewel in the snake, the gift at the end of the struggle.
Other astrologers say that Saturn sucks the venom out of Rahu (puts a break on Rahu's ruthless energy). That is another explanation of the nagmani. Either way, the positive expression of this combination is the ability to make rapid changes that help us break free of old patterns and limitations.
Previous times when Rahu and Saturn conjoined in Pisces were in the spring of 1968, and before that in the spring of 1820. Both of these previous times were associated with violence and civil unrest. For example, the Scottish Insurrection (Radical War) occurred in 1820, followed by the Yorkshire West Riding Revolt in England. These were a series of uprisings by the working class. And, April 1968 was a time of violence and civil unrest in the United States, following the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.
April 20: Easter - Celebrating Rebirth, Renewal, and Eternal Life
Easter Sunday will be celebrated on April 20 this year. Easter is the most important and oldest holy day in the Christian church, which commemorates the resurrection of Jesus the Christ. It is a deeply symbolic celebration of rebirth, renewal, and eternal life.
April 24 to July 23: An Alternating Kala Sarpa Yoga - Suggesting Some Extreme Energies, Imbalance, or Unrest
From April 24 until July 23, a Kala Sarpa Yoga (KSY) will be in place for two weeks on and two weeks off every month. During the KSY, all the grahas used in Vedic astrology (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn) will be within the Rahu-Ketu nodal axis and on one side of the sky map for two weeks at a time. Then, the Moon will transit outside of the nodal axis for two weeks, and then will dip back inside it for two weeks. The configuration can reflect some extreme highs and lows, or a sense of unrest and imbalance.
The dates when the KSY will be active are April 24 to May 7; May 22 to June 4; June 18 to July 1; and July 15-23. Mars will finally come outside of the nodal axis on July 23, which will break the pattern.
April 24 to April 26: The Balsamic Moon - Time to Rest, Retreat, Pause, Reflect, and Release
The Balsamic Moon phase will be in place from April 24 to 26. It is the deeply waning lunar cycle that leads up to the New Moon. It is the time of the month for cleansing, clearing, resting, and especially for turning inward. It is a wonderful time for meditation, healing, and releasing the old to make room for the new.
April 26: Mars-Pluto Opposition - Caution Advised
On April 26, Mars at nine-and-a-half degrees degrees of Cancer will be in exact opposition to Pluto at nine-and-a-half degrees of Capricorn. This aspect will be within an effective two-degree orb of influence from April 21 to May 1. This combination of Mars in Cancer opposite Pluto in Capricorn can have a violent, warlike, ruthless, or brutal expression. It can also represent terror attacks, upheaval, and revolt.
April 27: Super New Moon in Aries and Bharani Nakshatra - High Tides, Big Storms, and Emotional Intensity
The New Moon will occur in energetic and fiery Aries on April 27 at 3:31 PM EDT, or 7:31 PM UTC. It will be a Supermoon (Super New Moon) as the Moon will be very close to the Earth. This means that the lunar effect will be quite strong for a few days on either side of the New Moon, in terms of high tides, big storms, and emotional intensity.
Emotional intensity is further indicated by the fact that the New Moon in Aries will square Mars in Cancer, and because the Moon and Mars are exchanging signs. The New Moon will also occur in Bharani nakshatra, which can have an extreme, overwrought, and hypersensitive quality. All of this can suggest some tendency for a loss of control, anger, impulsiveness, and violence.
On a more positive note, every New Moon is ripe with the energy of initiation, when we should plant metaphoric seeds for the future by setting new goals and intentions. As the Moon slowly begins to wax brighter in the days following, it will begin to reveal its growing light to us, so that new understanding and ideas may start to blossom within. All creative activities are favored around the New Moon in Bharani nakshatra, as are also various kinds of agricultural ventures (gardening), and fire ceremonies (pujas), or other kinds of rituals for purification, such as fasting and cleansing.
April 29/30 Akshaya Tritiya - A Wonderful Time to Begin New Projects
Akshaya Tritiya will occur on April 29 in North and South America, and on April 30 everywhere else in the world. If you have anything really important you want to set into motion, such as making an important sale, purchase, or investment; starting a new business; quitting or beginning a new job; initiating a new job search; launching a website or publication; making any important announcement or communication; or beginning a new relationship, whether personal or professional, getting engaged or married, this is a really great day for it.
According to Vedic tradition, there are only a few days every year which are considered to be highly auspicious all day long, known as abhuj muhurtas, when any "seeds" that you plant will become especially fruitful. One of these days is Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej. This is the Golden Day of Eternal Success when anything you set into motion is said to be indestructible, as in “turning it to gold” (“A” means not, and “kshaya” means destructible).
On Akshaya Tritiya, the Sun and Moon, the King and Queen of the Planetary Kingdom, are especially "bright" (exalted) at the same time, and the Moon will be transiting in the third day of its waxing phase (shukla paksha) in the Vaisakha month (which is from April 28 to May 27 this year). The date of Akshaya Tritiya changes year by year.
The Treta Yuga or Age of Humankind commenced on Akshaya Tritiya. Related to this, Akshaya Tritiya is considered to be a day of high spiritual energy when a big bio-energetic shift and reset occurs in the atmosphere. In India, some of the main temples in the Himalayas along the Char Dham Yatra open up on this day, after having been closed for the past season.
It’s also interesting that Akshaya Tritiya commemorates the birth of Parasurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. And, according to another legend, Veda (Ved) Vyasa began reciting the epic Mahabharata to Lord Ganesha on Akshaya Tritiya, so this is an especially good day for beginning a new spiritual practice or a creative project.
Conclusion
What a month! After the turbulent cosmic conditions of March, we will enter a (relatively) gentler astrological period. That said, the Kala Sarpa Yoga and Super New Moon will put some pressure on all of us toward the end of the month. Fortunately, this will be counterbalanced by the more positive energy of Mercury and Venus stationing direct and the Sun entering Aries in the first half of the month. It is also a hopeful sign that the month begins with an inspiring Vedic celebration (Navaratri) and closes with one (Akshaya Tritiya), and includes several other sacred celebrations in between!
I wish everyone a pleasant April and hope anyone who has been waiting to begin an important project makes the most of the special opportunity to do so at the end of the month!
OMG!!! You shared my favorite rescitation ever of the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra!!! I have CHILLS!!! This rendition especially is how I learned the mantra. I cannot put to words how much THIS mantra especially (sung by this exact singer) helped me during a time when I had legitimate life-threatening situations/fears.
I won't elaborate on what they were, but this is a powerful mantra... and this version will always be so close to my heart. I freaked out when I clicked on it and this one came up so I had to share that. When all things worldly failed me, this took away my fear, and I was unharmed in the situation I faced. Now I'll return to the rest of the article. Had to share that. Thank you!
As someone who loves gems, can you do a little explanation of a jyotish gem in a future article? Or a link? Looking it up online is fascinating!!
