Vedic Astrology Forecast for June 2024
The Summer Solstice, the Full Moon crosses the center of the galaxy, and more!
June is the time for being in the world in new ways, for throwing off the cold and dark spots of life. (Joan D. Chittister)
Who's ready for summer? For many of us, summer is indeed the best and most inspiring season of the year. This is when our spirits start to come alive with a sense of renewal, vibrancy, and boundless potential.
In this article, I'm bringing you an in-depth preview of what the cosmos has in store for us in June. Let's take a look at all the major astrological events that will happen this month:
June 1: The First Day of Meteorological Summer in the Northern Hemisphere - Time to Start a New Season
June 1 marks the first day of meteorological summer in the northern hemisphere. It will be the first day of meteorological winter in the southern hemisphere. The meteorological seasons are based on weather and temperature cycles.
June 1: Uranus Will Transit Into Taurus - Beginning a New Cycle of Radical Changes
On June 1, Uranus will transit out of Aries and into Taurus. This represents a sea change in the world. Please see my previous article about this, titled The Transit of Uranus in Taurus: Get Ready for a Quantum Leap and Radical Changes Ahead.
June 4: Jupiter Will Complete Its Combustion Cycle: Some Hope and Optimism On the Horizon
Jupiter was combust for most of the month of May, a subject I discussed in a previous article. It will continue in this state for the first three days of June. Fortunately, Jupiter’s combustion will end around June 4. After this date, Jupiter will slowly emerge out of the Sun’s glare. This planet will become visible in the early morning sky after mid-June.
When Jupiter is combust, its positive attributes are somewhat obscured. This can lead to obstacles, frustrations, and challenges in life. Jupiter is the planet of confidence and positivity, so as it comes out of combustion, we may begin to feel more hope and optimism.
June 1-July 12: Mars Will Transit into Aries - High Energy and Drive
Mars will transit into Aries on June 1. Mars will be moving very fast at this time, and will transit in Aries for a little over six weeks, until July 12. Mars in Aries is strong (in dignity/in its own sign). In its highest expression, this signifies leadership ability, a powerful constitution, vim and vigor, stamina, motivation, high energy and drive, quick reflexes, and an ability to push through obstacles with ease.
However, as I also mentioned in my May report, Mars will be undergoing a big change from May 30 to June 2 as Mars transits from the last degree of Pisces through the first degree of Aries. This cusp between a water and fire sign (such as Pisces to Aries) is called the gandanta in Vedic Astrology. It’s a complicated relationship at the juncture of these two elements, as fire is extinguished by water, whereas water vaporizes in the heat of fire. This combination can be steaming hot and quite potent.
Therefore, gandanta placements in astrology can be emotionally strained, unstable, and volatile. They represent the promise of transformation, but with a gandanta Mars, this transformative energy can also be turbulent and unpredictable.
In the mundane sphere, Mars transiting in the gandanta has been associated with heightened political turmoil, storm activity, explosions, and accidents. During this time, we should manage our emotional tension, exercise moderation, and avoid waging war or trying to push too hard. Some of us may also feel very tired during this time.
June 1-30: Venus Continues in Combustion - Potential for Relationship, Financial, or Emotional Issues
Venus has been combust since late April. It will remain so until the second week of July. Venus becomes combust when it travels too close to the Sun (within 10 degrees). During combustion, the light of the Sun obscures Venus and renders it invisible to us. At this time, Venus undergoes a transformation. In this case, Venus will slowly shift from its morning to its evening star apparition.
In many cases, the combustion cycle of Venus is a stressful period for financial or relationship matters. It can be a challenging time to fulfill our emotional needs. We may feel quite dissatisfied, irritated, self-critical, or critical of others. It is thus a very important cycle in which to explore and cultivate self-value and self-love, and to root out the inner enemies of anxiety, worry, and alienation by developing a stronger and more peaceful connection within.
June 3-5: Venus Cazimi - Increased Peace, Forgiveness, and Creativity
Venus will be cazimi from June 3-5. This means that Venus will be very close to the Sun, within 17 longitudinal minutes. When Venus is in this position, it becomes very strong. The planet's increased power will allow it to overcome some of the problems of its combustion period. With Venus in Rohini nakshatra/Cancer navamsa, the themes at this time will revolve around peacemaking, family connections, forgiveness, and creative achievements.
June 3-5: Jupiter-Mercury Planetary War - Ideological Battles and Conflict
Jupiter and Mercury will be in a planetary war from June 3-5. Known as a graha yuddha, the planetary war between Jupiter and Mercury can indicate ideological battles. The planets will be within an exact conjunction on June 4, at eight degrees of Taurus in the fiery and cutting Krittika nakshatra.
Vedic astrology considers Mercury to be an enemy to Jupiter. When these two planets are conjunct, there may be combination that can signify disorganization, disputes, misunderstandings, or other problems with communication.
June 3-6: Balsamic Moon Phase - Time for Healing, Rest, Rejuvenation, and Clearing in Preparation for the New Moon
The Balsamic “Dreamtime” lunar phase will occur from June 3-6. This is the time to pause, listen within, clear, detox, and heal in preparation for the upcoming New Moon. Pay attention to dream messages and everyday oracles and notice how much easier it is to meditate and tune in during this time.
June 4: Venus Will Exactly Conjoin the Sun (Cazimi/Superior Conjunction) - Resolving Events that Were Set in Motion Last Year
Venus will be exactly conjoined the Sun on June 4. On this day, Venus will be on the far side of the Sun, and the Sun will be between the Earth and Venus. This event is known as a superior conjunction, an exact conjunction, or cazimi.
The last time that Venus and the Sun conjoined was last August 2023 during the retrograde cycle of Venus at its inferior conjunction. The time period between Venus's inferior and superior conjunctions is about nine months, which comprises a human gestational cycle. Therefore, in some cases, what was set into motion last August may begin to come to fruition after June 4.
Another way of looking at the Venus combust cycle is that this is a time when the planet Venus and the issues that it represents in astrology are being purified and transformed in order to help us develop new self-awareness.
The most challenging period of the combustion cycle is the time leading up to the superior conjunction (the period since late April in this case). After Venus’ superior conjunction, the more difficult qualities of this cycle should begin to ease up. As the energy improves, we can begin examining and integrating the lessons of Venus. This is the type of topic that I discuss with my clients in consultation.
June 6: New Moon in Taurus and Rohini Nakshatra - Bringing A Focus on Creativity, Home, Family, and Security Matters
The New Moon will occur in Taurus and Rohini nakshatra on June 6 at 8:38 AM EDT (12:38 PM UTC). You can use the World Time Buddy to convert to your time zone if it is different. On the day of the New Moon, six celestial bodies will be in Taurus: the Sun, Moon, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, and Uranus. This rare lineup of planets in one sign is known as a stellium.
The Rohini New Moon is traditionally a good time for farming and planting, healing, beginning a new self-improvement practice, and organizing your home or office. It's also an ideal day to shop for clothing, cars, jewelry, or even a new home. As the Moon will also occupy the ninth-harmonic (navamsa) of Cancer, this New Moon brings a focus on home, family, and security matters.
The New Moon in Taurus and Rohini is typically considered to be auspicious, abundant, and great for creative endeavors, especially when it conjoins Venus, the ruler of Taurus and the dispositor of all these planets in Taurus. However, the stellium in Taurus will make everything more complicated. This combination of planets involves multiple conflicting energies all entwined and knotted up. Also, because the lord of karma, Saturn, squares the stellium, this adds another level of stress.
Please see my recent article titled The Planetary Alignment of Early June for more information about the Taurus stellium and the other astrological combinations that are occurring in early June and in the New Moon chart.
June 6: Shani Jayanti - Happy Birthday to Saturn!
June 6 is a very special holy day in the Vedic calendar known as Shani Jayanti. This is the birthday of Shani Dev (Saturn), the lord of truth and karma. Prayers, pujas, and other rituals are traditionally performed in honor of Shani Dev on this special day.
June 11: Mars Square Pluto - Possible Power Struggles and Conflicts
On June 11, Mars in Aries will form an exact square with Pluto (90-degree aspect). This aspect will be within an effective orb of influence from June 8-13. This aspect occurs about every two years. When Mars squares Pluto, we should avoid risk-taking and minimize our exposure to danger or conflict. Mars squaring Pluto is a classic combination for power struggles, military and police conflicts, seismic eruptions, or natural disasters.
June 12-July 6: Venus Will Transit in Gemini - A Lighthearted Time for Socializing
Venus will transit in Gemini from June 12 to July 6. This is generally a sociable, communicative, curious, and lighthearted placement for Venus. That said, this placement can also indicate a tendency to be indecisive or fickle when it comes to love matters or making choices based on worth or value.
June 14: Dhumavati Jayanti - Happy Birthday to the Smoky One
Dhumavati Jayanti is an auspicious day celebrating the birth of Maa Dhumavati, the seventh of the ten Mahavidyas (Wisdom Goddesses) in the Tantric tradition of India. Those born with the Moon in the nakshatras of Rahu (Shatabhisha, Swati or Ardra) are the ones who most benefit from worshiping Dhumavati, especially on this auspicious day when her devotees will be relieved from all their problems and sins.
Dhumavati means the “Smoky One.” She is said to take the form of smoke. This substance has a highly protective quality for her devotees. Worshipers often offer her cigarettes and incense. Dhumavati is said to hang around murky places like foggy bogs, dark forests, smoky fires, smoldering volcanoes, and cremation grounds. Her aspect in the form of smoke conceals the world of illusion and reveals the truth of the mystery of life behind the façade of the divine play of the world.
June 14-July 16: The Sun Will Transit in Gemini - Time To Have Fun!
The Sun will transit into Gemini on June 14 at 2:57 PM EDT (6:57 PM UTC). It will remain in Gemini until July 16. The half-day on either side of the Sun’s Gemini ingress is a sensitive time (sankranti) when we should be mindful in order to avoid losing our way. The sankranti is not a time to initiate any new actions. Instead, it is a good time to focus on staying steady.
The Sun in Gemini can be playful, versatile, curious, creative, and communicative. Although the exact effect of this transit depends on the house in which Gemini falls in a natal horoscope, in general this can be a lighthearted time. During this transit, many people can become very busy and more interested in having fun, traveling, socializing, learning, or engaging in business matters. The downside can be a tendency for restlessness, impatience, or criticism.
The day that the Sun enters Gemini is called Mithuna Sankranti in the Vedic tradition. In certain parts of India, Mithuna Sankranti marks the start of the joyful monsoon season. In the Odisha area, it is a celebration worshiping Mother Earth.
June 14-29: Mercury Will Transit in Gemini - Conflict, Indecision, and Anxiety
Mercury will transit in its own abode of Gemini from June 14-29. Normally, Mercury does well here and gives a lot of curiosity and intelligence. However, Mercury will be very close to (combust) the Sun during this time. When Mercury is combust in Gemini, we may experience conflict, indecision, arguments, restlessness, breathing ailments, anxiety, and poor decision making.
Saturn in Aquarius will trine Mercury during this transit. Although Saturn can contribute to occupational difficulties, this planet may add some helpful counterbalance to the potential impulsiveness and erratic thinking of the combust Mercury in Gemini.
June 17: Gayatri Jayanti - Happy Birthday to Gayatri Mata
Gayatri Jayanti is the birthday of the goddess Gayatri. She is recognized as Veda Mata, the mother of the Vedas and all the deities, and especially embodies the pure essence of Saraswati, Parvati, and Lakshmi. This is a special day for pujas, fasting, offerings, and especially chanting the supreme Gayatri mantra.
June 20: Summer Solstice - Let's Celebrate the Magic of Life
The solstice will occur on June 20 at 8:50 PM UTC (4:50 PM EDT). You can check Time and Date for the exact calculation for your area if it is different. This will be the summer solstice and the beginning of astronomical summer in the northern hemisphere. On this day, the winter solstice and the beginning of astronomical winter will occur in the southern hemisphere.
In classical Muhurta (Vedic Electional Astrology), we are advised not to initiate anything that we want to be of lasting value three days before, the day of, and three days after a solstice. Instead, we should use these days to seek deep spiritual attunement and to spend time in nature. We should also follow rituals that support inner growth, healing, and transformation. The day of the solstice especially is an important time to honor the Sun and to give thanks for the wonder and magic of life!
June 21: Jyestha Purnima - A Day of Worship and Charity
Jyestha Purnima will take place on June 21 in the western part of the world, and on June 22 in the eastern half. This is the Full Moon day that occurs in the lunar month of Jyestha (which extends from June 6 to July 6). This day is dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Bathing in holy rivers, fasting, and offering charity on this day are thought to bring auspicious results. Honoring the Moon on this day is said to remove any astrological afflictions to the Moon in the horoscope.
June 21: Full Moon in Sagittarius - Tap into Your Inner Power and Higher Consciousness
On June 21 at 9:08 PM EDT, the Full Moon will occur at 6 degrees and 55 minutes of Sagittarius in Mula nakshatra. This will be on June 22 at 1:08 AM UTC. Use the World Time Buddy to convert to your time zone if different. This Full Moon is traditionally known as the Hot Moon, Strawberry Moon, Rose Moon, or Summer Moon, for obvious reasons.
This is an extremely powerful Full Moon. It will occur in alignment with Mula nakshatra in the Galactic Center, known in the Vedic tradition as Vishnunabhi (the Navel of Lord Vishnu). The Galactic Center is the Source of all the Light in our world. This Full Moon also falls within the solstice still-point period. It represents a perfect time to go deep in meditation to connect with Source energy. As you meditate, you can expand your consciousness and tap into the divine creative power.
The most opportune times for Full Moon rituals will be on June 20 and 21. Because the Full Moon will occur in Mula nakshatra, this is an especially auspicious time to make Full Moon water. It's also a good time for research, study, and getting to the bottom of anything. The energy here is in the realm of the fierce goddess Nirṛtī, whose shakti is the power to "break things apart." That can be translated literally, but also metaphorically.
June 29 to November 15: Saturn Retrograde - Potential for Anxiety, Surprises, and Seismic or Meteorological Events from June 19 to July 9
Saturn will station retrograde on June 29, and will remain retrograde until November 15 when it will station direct. Saturn will move from 25 degrees back to 18 degrees of Aquarius, which falls mostly within the over-heated and impetuous nakshatra known as Purva Bhadrapada.
Significant world events typically occur around the retrograde and direct stations of Saturn and for ten days on either side. These periods can trigger extreme mood shifts, anxiety, shocking and surprising events, intense meteorological patterns, and earthquakes or volcanic eruptions. During this time, we should cultivate peace, maintain equipoise, go with the flow, minimize risk, and be prepared for change.
A transiting stationary planet is very powerful. As a result, Saturn may activate certain events related to the planets and other chart points in your birth chart. You may feel anxious or depressed for up to 10 days before and after a retrograde or direct station of Saturn. This may be even truer for those with natal planets or chart points in close aspect to transiting Saturn.
Specifically, if you have any planets or chart points that occupy the area from around 16 to 27 degrees of Aquarius, Leo, Taurus, or Scorpio, this transit may be especially significant for you because Saturn will make contact with this area of your chart several times over the course of this year and into the first quarter of 2025. Saturn represents the power of manifestation. If this is a key transit for you, it will also bring important changes into your life.
Please refer to my previous article about Saturn’s Retrograde Transit in Aquarius for more specific details:
Saturn's Retrograde Transit in Aquarius
Transiting Saturn will retrograde in late June. This planetary shift can create major changes in your personal or professional life. In this special article for my paid subscribers, I'll explain how this transit might impact each Rising Sign. Understanding Saturn Retrograde
June 29-July 19: Mercury Will Transit in Cancer - Increased Emotions, Intuition, and Sensitivity
Mercury will transit in Cancer from June 29 to July 19. Mercury represents your intelligence. This planet can be gentle, intuitive, diffident, sentimental, and very sensitive here in the sign of the Crab. However, Mercury can also be melancholic, restless, or hot-tempered in this part of the zodiac. Mercury in Cancer can also be defensive. It can cause us to get stuck in emotional reasoning. We will benefit from maintaining consistency and structure in our daily life during the transit of Mercury in Cancer.
I hope my June astrology analysis was useful! As you can see, June will start with some challenging events, with both Venus and Jupiter combust. As we move deeper into the month, there will be an intense New Moon and a complicated stellium in Taurus.
Fortunately, the cosmic conditions should improve during the later part of the month. The Sun in Gemini, the summer solstice, and a magical Full Moon will bring us some more positive energy. At this time, you might feel more lighthearted and ready to enjoy the start of summer.
For my followers in the southern hemisphere, I wish you a very beautiful winter solstice as the light of your world becomes new again.
Summer gathered in the weather, the wind had the proper touch, the breathing of the world was long and warm and slow. (Ray Bradbury, Dandelion Wine)
Fantastic as always! Thank you! #FarrahNaykaAshline
Thank you, Juliana! I’m not sure if you’ve discussed this already, but I’m curious about gandanta in the natal chart, eg ascendant or moon. Is there a typical particular flavor to that?
