Really happy I came across your account! This was great to read, especially as I’ll be traveling down to Peru the week before Christmas to see my dad who’s very unwell. The timing feels aligned.

Overall, I'm new to learning astrology and finding the call for sidereal to be quite compelling. What finally sold you on Vedic?

Hi Audra, thanks for your comment. Basically the sidereal is more accurate in my experience. I started experimenting with sidereal when I was a young teen and first initiated into astrology in the late 60's over 50 years ago. My guru lineage from that same young age is with Yogananda and includes Sri Yukteswar who was a sidereal astrologer (Vedic). I studied Theosophy and was introduced to Bepin Behari through that too (he was a Vedic astrologer).

My parents were devotees of Edgar Cayce and Cayce himself channeled about the zodiac and believed that the sidereal zodiac was more accurate than the tropical zodiac used in the West. Reading 3376 - 2 states: “Though oft they are correct, more often ye find them at variance. For most astrologers are nearly 30 degrees off in the reckoning in the present.” In another reading Cayce gave to a woman whom he said was an astrologer in ancient Egypt, he stated: “The Egyptian and Persian records are quite varied. If the entity would study astrology, do not put the signs in the Egyptian but rather in the Persian, for the Persian interpretations are more proficient than the Egyptian. The variations in time (due to precession) have been corrected by the Persians and not by the Egyptians. The Egyptian calculations are 30 degrees off.” (Reading 2011-3).

I have also read everything I can on the history of the zodiac. One of the authors I recommend is Dr. Robert Powell. I recommend his book "The History of the Zodiac" and his latest one titled "The Astrological Revolution. " Also, his 2-volume set on Hermetic Astrology is very interesting. The incontrovertible evidence that he presents in all these books is that the “sidereal zodiac is primary, and the tropical is secondary; that the sidereal zodiac offers a frame of reference for the movements of the Sun, Moon and planets, while the tropical zodiac pertains solely to the annual motion of the Sun north and south of the celestial equator [Sun’s declination which is known as KRANTI in Vedic astronomy]” (p 27, Hermetic Astrology, Vol. 1). The lights came on for me when I began reading all about this…how the tropical zodiac is nothing but a model to plot the Sun’s 12 steps of yearly declination. Powell says that it is quite natural to place these steps in correspondence to the twelve signs of the original sidereal zodiac, but such a system is to be used in following the Sun’s annual motion only, not the other planets and the Moon. This is because it is the Sun’s declination motion and not its longitudinal motion that offers the key to the phenomenon of the passage of the seasons. Thanks!

Wow 😮 Thanks for all this info that totally could be a podcast used to recruit a new audience learning about astrology that are my yoga students 👏

Amazing this testimony. Namely, I find it interesting the depth of history you’re dialing back here.

I feel in current times, we should be focusing more on ancient texts from the East and frankly leave Western Astro for a period to dissect to study where capitalism went wrong.

Western Astro is a great ‘gateway drug’ to teach the aesthetics and whip out one-liners at parties, but it’s not helpful to teach to a skeptical audience that doesn’t speak metaphysical topics. There’s so much more to say on this topic! just finding your work, thks for your insight ✨

Well thanks Audra, glad you are delving into your own research. And please keep in mind that not all western astrology used the tropical system. Western Sidereal Astrology is based on the Babylonian astrology tradition which was an ancient profound sidereal system. and a western system. Check out Ken Bowser's articles about this system which was resurrected in the early part of the last century in western culture: https://www.westernsiderealastrology.com/copy-of-articles ...and also I use many techniques and methods used in the tropical system but I only used them with the sidereal zodiac and combined with Jyotish...this is called Neo-Vedic astrology.

Thank you so much for this info and these links. 😊 I’m infusing Astro basics into my yoga classes, by teaching via the elements. Trying to use less technical language and find a better way to integrate into my existing yoga teachings. This started in the Vedics so the progressive feels natural.

Very wise words of insight, knowledge, application. I thank you and shall heed them and refer often. Of late I've been observing that these types of energy have already been of relevance. I've wondered since I am 50 years schooled in the Tropical system and quite the novice student of Vedic Astrology if there isn't often a precursor effect??? Almost a double whammy! Lol... Thank you as always. I look forward to your lovely updates always! Love and light.

Hi Amberlynn, thanks for your kind feedback. I worked with the tropical zodiac for 25 years before shifting to sidereal and Vedic systems in the mid-1990s, and I personally don't advocate it now, though I know many do and that's fine for them! That said, the planets have always been moving and repeating their multitude of patterns and dynamics. This is the nature of samsara and the duality in which we live. Also, the relationships between the planets are the same no matter what zodiac backdrop you use. Thanks again.
