I cast the fall equinox horoscope for the United States. This chart reflects the collective karma for the nation during the last quarter of the year up to the winter solstice on December 21, 2022.
The ascendant (rising sign/lagna) conjoins Rahu and Uranus in the fierce and severe (krura/ugra) nakshatra known as Bharani, which lies within the often quick-tempered and inflammatory constellation of Aries. These placements can have a turbulent, divisive, and disruptive quality.
In mundane astrology, Aries is the sign of conflict (war and threats of war); political fanaticism; criminality and law enforcement; mega-storms, fires, and accidents; vagrants; and unhoused encampments. So, any and all associated matters may be areas of intense focus or tumult.
The ascendant is also conjoined the point of this past summer’s very intense epochal conjunction of Mars, Rahu, and Uranus. The challenging force of this conjunction continues to resonate into the remainder of this year, as I had mentioned it would in my previous forecasts.
Bharani nakshatra can represent a sense of struggle and suffering, as well as turmoil, confusion, and chaos. One of its rulers is the goddess Kali, whose nature is extreme and intense. Bharani is ruled by Venus (water element) and Mars (fire element), so it can represent intense, devastating, or “stormy” events. This conjunction occurring in the all-important first house of the horoscope is a possible trigger for heated, violent, dangerous, and explosive geopolitical events.
Saturn’s square aspect to the conjunction tends to crack open literal and metaphoric foundations, and points to all the multiple crises unfolding now within American society, and especially related to the government and economy in particular. For more about this, please check out my previous article.
Mars occupies the second house in Taurus, where it will retrograde from October 30 to January 12. (I wrote about the Mars in Taurus transit and its retrograde cycle in a previous blog post). According to Raphael’s Mundane Astrology, Mars in the second house points to potential losses in the stock market, as well as bank failures or panics; and denotes an enormous expenditure and waste of public funds. International military affairs will require vast amounts of money, and the revenue and economy will be seriously affected in this way.
Mars is also in a stressful inconjunct (6/8-shasta-ashtakam/quincunx) with Ketu, which is conjoined the descendant (asta lagna) of this chart. This seems to suggest the ongoing trend of rising crime and violence. This aspect also points to dangerous international conflicts and global threats as well as the migrant surge and crisis on the southern border which has grown even further out of control in the past year or so.
Pluto occupies the MC/midheaven in the tenth house in early sidereal Capricorn:
Capricorn is the sign of politics, government, corporate businesses, and borders between nations.
The midheaven (MC/madhya lagna) represents political leaders in government. In particular, it symbolizes those at the head of the executive branches of state and federal government, and those in the highest positions of authority in other branches of government, as well as those in corporate America who strongly influence policy and the partisan political scene. The midheaven also signifies matters specific to national integrity, international trade, and the future direction of the nation.
Pluto is the planet of nuclear energy and weapons. It also represents unscrupulous and dictatorial authority figures, contagious diseases, mass tragedies, and socialism. As the planet of death, upheaval, transformation, and metamorphosis, Pluto is the “roto-rooter” of planets! It has no true concern for the common people, as it symbolizes the Plutocracy (government by wealthy elites). In this position on the midheaven, Pluto may emphasize autocratic policies, terrorist activities (sabotage and espionage), economic warfare, and other dangerous destabilizing events and dramatic changes in any or all above-mentioned tenth house matters.
The world abounds in war horses; let the day come when they will be used only to fertilize fields. Our nations hold a multitude of weapons; let us pray that they be shunned as omens of evil. People yearn for power, let us hope that more and more of us will find contentment in our daily lives. Let us listen to our own prayers. It is we who make them real. (Deng Ming Dao)
