Solar Partial Eclipse, October 25, 2022
Please note that I am a sidereal Vedic astrologer and my calculations are based on the sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsa, not on the tropical calendar system used by most western astrologers.
The new Moon occurs on Tuesday, October 25. This will also be a partial solar eclipse visible from parts of Europe, western Asia, and northeast Africa. The point of the central eclipse will be at the North Pole. As we move farther south, less of the Sun's disk will be eclipsed. In Russia, 80% of the Sun will be eclipsed. The eclipsed portion of the Sun's disk will drop to 70% in China, 63% in Norway, and 62% in Finland. The partial solar eclipse will begin at 4:58 a.m. EDT (08:58 GMT) when the Moon passes in front of the Sun, and will end at approximately 9:00 a.m. EDT (13:00 GMT). The maximum eclipse time will be around 7 AM EDT. https://www.space.com/watch-partial-solar-eclipse-online-oct-25-2022

Though the maximum eclipse time will occur around 7:00 AM EDT, the exact new Moon will occur at 6:49 AM EDT. You can use the World Time Buddy to convert to your own time zone as needed. A solar eclipse falls on a new Moon when the Sun, Moon, and Earth line up, and the Moon blocks the light of the Sun. When the lunar node (the south node Ketu in this eclipse) is relatively far in longitude from the luminaries (as in this case), it is just a partial eclipse.
Because this eclipse is most prominent in Russia, China, and parts of Scandinavia, these areas are especially geopolitically significant at this time, during the past six months, and in the coming six months. Even so, and according to astrology, an eclipse affects the entire world.
In the months and weeks before and after a Ketu solar eclipse, we are releasing something old to allow room for new beginnings. Ketu’s involvement can indicate a great deal of loss and stress, or a crisis. In some cases, new information (even secrets) may be revealed, which can feel devastating, surprising, or shocking.
Depending on how the eclipse is triggering a natal chart and other factors in the horoscope and in one’s life, a Ketu eclipse can feel quite exhausting. This type of eclipse activates the need to release certain ego holding patterns. We may have to sift through what is true and important versus what isn’t, and this process can feel like a powerful transformative cycle.
Eclipses always occur in pairs. Two weeks after the solar eclipse, on November 8, we will have a total lunar eclipse in Aries.
The Libra-Aries axis is being activated in this eclipse season, as it was similarly activated last April and May, and will be again next April and May of 2023. This is the axis of relationships. The house position of these signs and any natal planets therein will also be impacted in a natal or a mundane horoscope.
During the new Moon/partial solar eclipse, the Sun, Moon, Venus, and Ketu will occupy Libra. Venusian matters may be under pressure or transformed around this eclipse, because the eclipse occurs in the sign of Venus (Libra), and Venus is not only eclipsed but also combust (too close to the Sun).
Venusian and Libran areas of concern may include women’s issues; relationship issues; diplomatic issues; concern over personal happiness and vitality; and financial matters. The eclipsed Sun, new Moon, Venus, and Ketu will all occupy Swati nakshatra during the eclipse. The involvement of this nakshatra brings an emphasis on finances, business, and trade, stock exchanges, journalists, judges, and the hospitality industry. Swati, ruled by Rahu and Vayu, also adds a great deal of restless and changeable energy into the mix, but also represents the birth of innovative technologies.
The last time we had a similar eclipse was on November 1, 1910.
This 1910 solar partial eclipse also involved a conjunction of Mars, Jupiter, and Mercury, along with Venus, Ketu, and the luminaries in Libra. This eclipse:
Kicked off the ten-year Mexican Revolution.
Occurred around the time of the first commercial airplane flight in history (in the United States).
Set the stage for a positive new development in the women’s suffrage movement, at the Black Friday protests (November 18, 1910) in the British Parliament.
Occurred a few weeks before a top secret gathering on Jekyll Island in Georgia, when an elite group of powerful men came together to lay the foundation for the Federal Reserve System.
On a positive note, an eclipse is considered to be a sacred time, during which meditation, positive affirmations, healing, and other spiritual practices are particularly significant. It is well known that the benefits of any of our favorite contemplative practices performed around the maximum eclipse time will be tremendously and auspiciously magnified.
Most helpful would be prayers and mantras to the Goddess Lakshmi, who is associated with the planet Venus, the sign ruler of Libra where the solar partial eclipse occurs in conjunction with Venus. The Lakshmi Puja, which is the most important day of Diwali, will occur on Monday, October 24, on the day leading up the the eclipse.
