Once-in-a-Decade Hybrid Solar Eclipse on April 20, 2023
How This Strange and Unusual Eclipse Could Have a Dramatic Impact on the World
Please note that this and all my other forecasts are based on the sidereal zodiac used in both Vedic and Western sidereal astrology, not the tropical system used by most Western and some Vedic astrologers. All the astrological charts below are calculated according to the sidereal zodiac and Lahiri Ayanamsa.
A New Moon/Solar Hybrid Eclipse Will Occur in Aries on April 20: A Rare and Unusual Celestial Event
A solar hybrid eclipse will occur in Aries on April 19-20. This strange and rare type of eclipse occurs only once every decade. Combining a partial, annular, and total solar eclipse into one event, a hybrid eclipse changes its appearance as the Moon's shadow moves across the Earth's surface. The last time we had a hybrid eclipse was November 3, 2013.
This month’s eclipse will begin at 9:36 PM Eastern Time on April 19 (01:36 AM UTC on April 20).
The eclipse will end at 2:59 AM Eastern Time on April 20 (6:59 AM UTC on April 20).
The exact soli-lunar phase of this month’s solar eclipse (at the time of the New Moon) will occur at 00:12:30 AM Eastern Time on April 20 (4:12:30 AM UTC on April 20).
The maximum eclipse will occur slightly later, at 00:17 AM Eastern Time on April 20 (4:17 AM UTC on April 20).

Hybrid solar eclipse: Everything you need to know about the rare and strange phenomenon, by Jamie Carter, published November 20, 2022 on Space.com
The solar eclipse will be followed two weeks later on May 5 by an appulse (penumbral) lunar eclipse in Libra. This article is about the solar eclipse, and I will write more about the lunar eclipse later.
A Conjunction of the Sun, Moon, and Rahu, the Moon’s North Node
The eclipse will be formed by a conjunction of the Sun, Moon, and Rahu (the Moon’s North Node), in early sidereal Aries and Ashwini nakshatra. The luminaries (Sun-Moon) will occupy Aries at 5 degrees and 39 minutes, and Rahu, the Moon’s North Node (which marks the shadow of the eclipse), will occupy 10 degrees and 14 minutes of Aries (using the Mean Node calculation).
Jupiter Will Bring Intense Emotional Energy and Some New Focus on Spiritual Growth and Powerful Life Lessons
At the time of the eclipse, Jupiter will occupy the position at 29 1/2 degrees Pisces, in the transformational edge between Pisces and Aries (the gandanta). Jupiter will move into Aries a few days after the eclipse. For more details, I previously wrote an extensive article about the transit of Jupiter in Aries.
Jupiter’s out-of-sign conjunction with the eclipsed luminaries will magnify the energies of change in the weeks leading up to and following the eclipse. This could trigger confusing or troubling events, such as an ethical crisis; big storms (literal and figurative/as with intense emotional energy); overindulgence; or a financial turning point. Additionally, certain long-held spiritual beliefs may be questioned and modified when an eclipse involves Jupiter.
A Time of Potential Anger, Political Challenges, and General Unrest
An eclipse affects the whole world and brings upheaval and change in worldly matters, even though it is not visible in every area of the world. The energies around a solar eclipse can resonate for six months backward and forward (especially for as long as the lunar node remains in the same sign as the eclipse, as it will in this case).
A Rahu solar eclipse has an dramatic, metamorphic, and evolutionary effect. It is about planting new seeds and reaching out to seek new experience. Yet, the Rahu conjunction eclipsing the luminaries can spark nervous disorders, criminal actions, mass insanity, malaise, and unrest, especially during the eclipse season (from April 6 to May 11).
How an eclipse will directly impact an individual or entity (like a country) depends on how and where the eclipse plugs into a natal horoscope. As an example, in the United States Kelleher birth chart, the eclipse will conjoin the I.C. (Imum Coeli/patala lagna/fourth house cusp of the bhava/house chart).
According to H. S. Green in Mundane or National Astrology, when eclipses occur in the fourth house [conjoined the I.C.], “this bodes poorly for the monarch [the President] and government and for the success and welfare of the nation; the people will suffer in some way signified by the sign or the planets afflicting; there will be ill feeling between the people and the upper classes; some great or well-known person may die or suffer a downfall or discredit; it may be unfavorable for the crops, for agriculture, and for land, mines, and house property [real estate].”
According to H. S. Green in Mundane or National Astrology:
Eclipses occurring in cardinal signs [like Aries] “produce their effects quickly and are soon over. They are liable to disturb foreign affairs, and to bring trouble to the monarch [the President] and government…In some cases they are followed by great changes politically, or national trade may be affected.”
Eclipses in fire signs [like Aries] “are said to excite men's minds and produce sensational public events, disturbances, disputes, murders, sometimes danger of war and movements of armies; the death of kings, nobles, or great men; excess of heat, scarcity of rain, expenditure of money, and increase of taxation.”
Additionally, the effects of an Aries solar eclipse suggest a good deal of anger in the collective consciousness, as well as fires, accidents, criminality, issues with the military and law enforcement, and political fanaticism. The eclipse in Ashwini nakshatra points to issues with criminality, military matters, and police. There may also be healthcare issues as well as advances in medicine and healing. This type of solar eclipse is further associated with problems with mines, mining, and factories, as well as railways and airlines.
Pluto at six degrees of Capricorn will form a stressful square with the eclipsed luminaries which will occupy five+ degrees of Aries in the eclipse chart. This aspect brings in the potential over the coming months for even more anger and intensity in the collective reality. This includes agitated emotions, a heightened sense of burden, overwhelming frustrating feelings, relationship conflicts, economic and employment concerns and upheavals, power struggles (especially with authority figures), civil unrest, heightened criminality, and conflicts within the military or law enforcement. As the Sun rules the leaders of government and industry, this Pluto stress aspect suggests some potential for problems in these areas and among these groups, too.
Understanding the Path of Eclipse Totality
The path of totality of a solar eclipse is the area where the Sun will be completely covered by the Moon during the eclipse, as viewed from Earth. Even though eclipses affect the whole world, they can have a particularly significant impact in the area where the path of the solar eclipse is visible. This includes the path of totality, but also the area where the partial eclipse falls.
This solar eclipse will begin at sunrise in the southern Indian Ocean and will be visible overhead in Australia, Timor-Leste (Southeast Asia), and Indonesia. The eclipse will end at sunset in the Pacific Ocean just above the equator near the International Date Line. The path of totality will pass over North West Cape, a remote peninsula of Western Australia (the Ningaloo Coast).
This map below shows the path of totality (red line) as well as the partial eclipse lines above and below it. You can also see that the eclipsed points (Sun and Moon) and the shadow Rahu will be conjoined the I.C. (fourth house cusp) in parts of Northeast Canada, the West Indies, and South America. Pluto will intersect the eclipse line in Bolivia, Brazil, Suriname, and Guyana, so that these areas could be hot spots for geopolitical, seismic, and meteorological events, too. Please check out Time and Date for more detailed information on this eclipse.
Thank you so much for your writings! Do you think Mercury will play a big part in this eclipse? I'd love to hear what you think. Thank you!
So much appreciated. I like how you also include the outer planets for mundane events.
