Happy Jupiter Day, known in Vedic astrology as Brihaspativaar or Guruvaar. The colors for Jupiter are yellow, orange, and gold. Tuning into these colors especially on Thursdays will help build creative energy, strengthen concentration, and ignite wisdom and purpose. As an example, this morning, I listened to a Kelly Howell BrainSync meditation that involves streaming gold light! It is also helpful to wear the planet’s colors on its day of the week.
Other activities that are good for Thursdays are spiritual rituals and practices; reading philosophical and metaphysical books; praying to one’s gurus; studying any topics of interest; sharing wisdom; traveling afar; banking and finance; making large purchases; giving generously to others; and all kinds of celebrations.
According to Bepin Behari in Myths and Symbols of Vedic Astrology:
Jupiter is the best benefic...the bringer of the cosmic good...known as Brihaspati, the deity who personifies the worship of the Gods. Hence, Jupiter represents the materialization of the Divine Grace...gives a positive approach to life...In the Rig Veda, Brihaspati is invoked as a mighty power capable of providing immense protection and great prosperity...the special responsibility of Jupiter is to teach and gently lead his students on the path of truth...Jupiter is Jiva, the principle of life...
Jupiter has been transiting in his own powerful abode of sidereal Pisces since mid-April, and will continue here until late next April 2023. I wrote about this transit previously on this Substack blog.
Jupiter will retrograde from July 28 to November 23, transiting back from approximately 15 to 5 degrees of Pisces. During Jupiter’s retrograde cycle in Pisces, we may more naturally tune in to study something new, heal ourselves spiritually and emotionally, and expand our consciousness; focus more deeply on creative self-expression; change some of our philosophical beliefs; modify our goals; and tap into new dreams that are more in alignment with our true ideals.
Furthermore, Jupiter is transiting in a section of Pisces called Uttara Bhadrapada nakshatra from late April 2022, until February 24, 2023. At that point in February, Jupiter will transit quickly through Revati nakshatra until moving into Aries on April 21, 2023.
Uttara Bhadrapada extends from 3 degrees 20 minutes to 16 degrees 40 minutes of sidereal Pisces. This is a fiery (passionate) asterism, part of the “Scorching Pair” along with the previous Purva Bhadrapada nakshatra. Uttara Bhadrapada is also called the Warrior Star, as it is ruled by a very unusual deity named Ahirbudhnya, the Serpent of the Deep, who is a member of Lord Shiva’s army.
Uttara Bhadrapada natives are often reclusive or very self-contained, and also tend to be determined, intelligent, and hard-working; many are interested in healing, food, herbs, and agriculture. I know of several people with strong birth chart placements here who have great inherited wealth. In its lower expression, which obviously does not always manifest, Uttara Bhadrapada can also be a very tamasic nakshatra: calculating, cunning, distrustful, obsessive, indolent, or with addictive tendencies.
Uttara Bhadrapada’s deity Ahirbudhnya symbolizes kundalini awakening. For that reason, and also as Uttara Bhadrapada is ruled by the lords of karma and dharma/Saturn and Jupiter, it is associated with energy healing, or spiritual and psychic growth and development, and this will be an important focus for some of us during Jupiter’s transit here.
Uttara Bhadrapada’s gift is the “power to bring rain” which evokes the literal themes of rain, abundance, and fertility, as well as the more figurative theme of spiritual cleansing and rejuvenation that comes when we attune to the “water of life,” the kundalini shakti that streams forth from the Divine Being.
The female cow and the goddess Lakshmi are symbols of Uttara Bhadrapada too, so as Jupiter transits here, we can access these powers of abundance, nurturing, peace, and love if we can bring proper focus to them.
Jupiter is transiting with Saturn in the third pada of Uttara Bhadrapada in the navamsa (ninth harmonic) of Libra from June 3 to July 1. Venus is also in the navamsa of Libra from June 9-13. With these transits, some of us may be feeling less reactive, and more harmonious, energized, focused, tenacious, or organized than usual. Dominant themes in the collective may revolve around business and economic concerns, and law and order.
All hail to Mighty Jupiter, Lord Brihaspatiji,
Who is the living exemplar of wisdom and goodness,
Pure vessel of divine benevolence and grace,
Whose radiant glance benefits all beings.
Homage to Lord Guruji.
I like that you include the subtly aspects of transits like where Jupiter and Shani are transiting in the navamsa... Reminds me to look there too. 🙏
