Welcome to my July 2024 Vedic astrology calendar!
July will begin with a waning Moon that will lead us into the very magical New Moon of July 5. This New Moon will occur at the time of aphelion, when the Earth is furthest from the Sun. At this time, the Earth will be moving slower in its orbit than at any other time of the year, and the Sirius Gateway will open, showering the Earth with grace and blessings. The first week of July is therefore a time when we will benefit from slowing down and tuning in.
Though the sweltering Dog Days of Summer will begin (in the northern hemisphere) at the time that the Sirius Gateway opens, Venus will finally leave its combustion phase around July 10, bringing a welcome relief and some much-needed balance. That balance is especially important because an intense and rare transiting conjunction of Mars, Uranus, and Algol will occur on July 15 (and this aspect will be within an effective orb of influence from July 10 to 19).
The auspicious Guru Purnima Full Moon will occur on July 21. And the early-harvest celebration of Lammas will be another high note on July 31, capping off a very active month and leading us into the majestic month of August.

Astral Reads for the Month
As a poetry enthusiast, I am a devoted fan of Ivan M. Granger’s Poetry Chaikhana website, which is rich with the sacred poetry of cultures, religions, and spiritual traditions from around the world. Granger has also published several carefully curated poetry books which you can order on his website.
I recently discovered a marvelous Substack called Alice in Futureland. As a double Aquarian, I appreciate their deep dives into the “fundamental trippy weirdness of frontier ideas.” I especially resonated with The HeartBrain, a thoughtful piece about the mechanisms by which emotions influence cognitive processes, behavior, health and the global interconnectivity between people and Earth’s energetic systems.
I was quite inspired by the provocative ideas as well as the discussion in the comments section of Priya Iyer’s intriguing essay titled How to Know When You’ve Arrived: Arrival, The Destination For Every Journey.
A June 21 article by Ellen Wexler in Smithsonian Magazine titled World’s Oldest Deep-Sea Shipwreck Discovered a Mile Beneath the Mediterranean Sea discusses the recent incredible discovery of a 3,300-year-old shipwreck in deep water in the Mediterranean Sea. This vessel, which researchers believe dates back to the Bronze Age, is among the oldest shipwrecks that have ever been found. I love history, and I'm excited to see what this discovery reveals about the ancient world.
