Astral Reads
The recent New Moon of January 29 marked the beginning of the Chinese New Year of the Wood Snake. I enjoyed reading this piece by astrologer Stephanie Johnson, titled The Year of the Wood Snake: What Skin Will You Shed? Here, she shares an informative write-up by her friend and colleague Malvin Artley.
I have been reading a lot of psychological works this month. One article that I especially enjoyed is a guide to the all-important task of strengthening the ego. This is by Alyssa Polizzi of The Artemisian, an inner work community exploring archetypal studies and Jungian psychology.
I also recently re-read the book Graceful Exits: How Great Beings Die, an inspiring “oldie but goodie” written and published in 1997 by the late Sushila Blackman. This little treasure describes how sages and spiritual leaders throughout different cultures have approached their own deaths. If you've been thinking about the meaning of life, aging, and passage of time lately, this could be a valuable read. I feel the insight and acceptance that these sages show during the end of their lives to be so uplifting and inspiring. (Source)
I also highly recommend the Cosmographia Substack. The best place to begin reading is the article Why I Write Cosmographia. The author M.E. Rothwell explains it in a nutshell: "Cosmography as a word is no longer in vogue, but it once denoted attempts to map the entire cosmos. It differed from geography in that its scope included the celestial — other worlds, the heavens, creation — alongside terrestrial concerns like cartography, people, flora, and fauna. In essence, traditional Cosmography was an attempt to unite history, geography, anthropology, ethnology, zoology, and theology all in one; a preposterously vast, yet dazzling endeavor." This fascinating and valuable resource includes extraordinary images of maps and art, as well.
Jupiter’s return to direct motion seems serendipitous as it occurred on the last day on the calendar that the sun is closer to the winter solstice than to the spring equinox. From 2/5 onward we are closer to the equinox. The expansion of light, and to some degree warmth as well, coincides nicely with Jupiter’s resumption of its encouragement of outward and positive expansion.
Jupiter went direct yesterday? Maybe that's why I committed to and followed through on various small tasks that cumulatively had a big impact on the quality of my day. I was surprised by (and grateful for) the energy boost!
